Swansea The Gower is only a very short drive from Swansea which offers good shopping, fine restaurants, sports and leisure facilities, and theatres and cinemas.
Swansea Bay is also a very attractive area with long sandy beaches which lead from the City centre out to Mumbles and the Gower.

Llanelli The other side of the Estuary lies Llanelli. This once major steel town still boasts a steel mill, but the former docklands area has been transformed with the Creation of the Millennium Coastal Path.
In South Llanelli a Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Centre has been developed at Penclacwydd (translated as the hill of the gander) covering some 200 acres of salt marshes part of which is zoned as a site of special scientific interest. It attracts rare birds in an area already recognised to be of international importance for wading birds. The centre has walks, secluded hides, and a Visitors Centre.
To the west lies Carmarthen Bay, a superb mix of seashore, woodland and rolling countryside together with the historic town of Kidwelly with its ancient castle. You will also find the Pembrey Peninsula, a vast extent of breach, dunes and forest. This area offers the tourist a number of facilities including Burry Port harbour, but the major attraction is Pembrey Country Park, which attracts over 300,000 people a year to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Pembrey forest and the seven miles of Cefn Sidan beach, which translated means literally "silk back". It is a superb seaside country park offering a magnificent beach, woodland, picnic areas, a dry ski-slope, mini-railway, putting green, a Visitors Centre, and a restaurant, together with ample car parking.
